I did some more searching online and I think I found a tutorial that explains what I need. My problem is that there is an Active Directory server that IT at my school maintains and I need to use testsaslauthd to authenticate students that are in the Active Directory. The tutorial I found is at http://www.linuxmail.info/active-directory-cyrus-sasl-authentication/, but I am confused as to why I need kerberos and how would I find out m own realm. So I am wondering if this setup on the link is the solution I am looking for. I looked at your link Chris but I don't know if for my problem if I need to join the domain of the Active Directory.

I was really impressed when Gilbert showed Likewise. Unfortunately my
results with it were not as good as his. I used
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ActiveDirectoryWinbindHowto to do
what i needed which I got from Charles Wyble and it worked without
issue.
