No experience with XBMC, but I will say that MythTV was trash each
time and the last time I tried it (couple of years ago).

It was so crashy and non-performant that I went Tivo and haven't looked back.

My wife tolerates my hobbies but if her shows not taping can in any
way be traced to me, I get a lot of grief.

Just not worth it...
