[LinuxUsers] kalarm problem on gnome

I still need kalarm, but I'd much prefer running gnome to the new kde.
But when I run kalarm on gnome the alarm management screen pops up in
the middle of the desktop, but without any handles, borders, or menus,
so I can neither move it nor close it.
(Someone told me that "stuff" is called "chrome" but I don't know that
with certainty.)
I'd not worry but just run it on it's own desktop screen, but I can't do
that either, without the controls.
Anyone know how to fix that? Posts on the 'net say it works with gnome,
but I haven't found a fix for this issue.
