I just installed ubuntu 8.10 on a new desktop system.  I'll have to do a 
reinstall because the ISO I used doesn't support RAID, and I think I 
want to use that.  I DID install kde; this is my first time attempting 
to rely on a non-kde system, and I want to have the fallback for now.

I have some questions already...

What can I try to run to see if my mb-based graphics will manage 3D 
graphics?

Is there a gnome-based alternative to KAlarm?  If so, can I import into 
it?  Or should I try running KAlarm under Gnome?

I believe that there are now alternatives to KMail which allow me to set 
a specific sound file as part of a filter.  The need for that is why 
I've always used KMail.  Do you know of an alternative that offers me 
this?  Do you suggest any specific other email program?  Or should I go 
ahead and use KMail?
