[LinuxUsers] Oracle to buy Sun...

Ouch that doesn't look good.

Monty of mysql fame also had a interesting blog update yesterday. It
seems at the very least he believes the MySQL core will be jumping off
the sinking ship. Cost cutting would also give Oracle a legitimate
"out" in terms of killing the MySQL name.

Talking with someone I know up here he mentioned a interesting point
that I had not considered. If IBM bought Sun, more than likely the
brand/name of Sun will continue to live on just as part of IBM. Now
that Oracle has bought Sun, it's name will be absorbed and never seen
again.

Things will change but MySQL code is GPL'd so it will live on if not
under the same name. I think it is pretty clear now that the talks
with IBM were purely a method to hook and reel in Oracle. The IBM/Sun
fall out really strikes me more and more of Sun leveraging IBM's
interest to goad Oracle into gulping down the proffered hook.
