Did you guys notice that they extended the period where you can register a serial number until November 30?
Unless I'm missing something, then it sounds like it is still available to those who have not attempted to acquire it as of yet.
At least I hope it is.
Furthermore, you can go to the 99 cent store and get a bottle of wine for, you guessed it, 99 cents.
If you can't afford a beer, then maybe you just need to get drunk!

Beer is good but coffee is more like crack.

I am not sure about
future versions. This "free as in beer" thing happened due to that
Lame Duck Presidential Challenge, which can be easily googled for. Dunno if it
was a marketing stunt or the guy really meant the challenge...
If your uses are generic, like regular office stuff and the likes, then yeah,
you've got your regular Linux alternatives, but if you depend on software like
Quicken/Quickbooks for accounting, or if you do gaming, or if you need IE6 for
some website or the other, then it's either a VM with XP or using software like
this, which really works great for a lot of stuff... The wine project is really
amazing.

I believe the unlocked builds will continue to work and have updates
for the duration of this versions lifetime. In the future though,
their builds will require a key, so register for one if you think
you'll download it at a later time. It's a good opportunity for
people to get a taste of what the software can do.
I hope this isn't a last ditch effort to stay in business. I used to
use them way back in 2000-2001, but have since vowed to use 100%
native Linux code if possible. Unfortunately, my download today will
be just to try it out, as I'm perfectly happy with Linux software
availability.
