Thanks, everyone.  I made a preliminary decision to go with Ubuntu.  
After my latest thread I made a preliminary decision to go with 64-bit 
Ubuntu.

However after reading this I'm not sure if I've done right by Ubuntu and 
the hardware I selected.  Note that I _can_ return the video card and 
buy something else; perhaps even something else more expensive, but I 
want to have the right combination...

I'm looking at that last sentence, becaue the video card I bought is an 
nVidia GeForce card.  What does that last word "acceleration" mean to 
me in the context of the hardware I've bought?  Does that mean it 
supports 3D but not acceleration?

Note that I don't _need_ 3D, but it's one of my wants for this new 
machine.  I want to try the new desktops.

Any help will be appreciated; I was going to unwrap and build today 
<smile>.
