Someone may have already mentioned this plug in....I'm not sure
I went back to the thread, and I didn't see it, so I posted it.
So sorry if someone already posted it....don't want to take undue credit.

Found another cool firefox plugin:     switch proxy

you can manage your proxy configuration so can switch to a proxy config, and 
when you are at a hotspot, you can auto ssh to an office or home server and serf the net securely,
or if your at home you can switch back to normal proxy.
